A little about me and where I come from

2000-2018

A Meandering journey

I was never one of those people who knew exactly what they wanted to do when they grew up. I always figured I would just keep trying things and evantually something would find me. After finishing high school, I decided to jump headfirst into post-secondary and moved across the country from Victoria to Montreal.

2018-2019

Adjusting The Apprach

I started a Political Science degree at Concordia University. However, while no doubt an engaging program, it didn't take long to figure out it wasn't the one for me. I decided to go a different direction after one semester, not entirely sure what that new direction was.

2019-2022

Embracing the untried

It seemed the best way to embrace this setback was to try a variety of things while I still had the flexibility to do so. As a result, I moved around, spent some time in New Zealand with family, worked outside, worket in different restaurants. However, I still didn't feel pulled in any particular direction.

An Encouraging nudge

Having never seriously considered a career in tech before, I was suprised by My own intrigue at the idea after talking with an old friend who had just completed a diploma program similar to Camosun's. He explained at it's bones what programing is, and why he liked it. The more he described, the more drawn in I became.

2022-2023

A Fortunate Detour

After some research and back and forth with faculty, I was set to start the the very same program my friend had finished a few years prior. But jsut a month before the start date, I got news that the program wouldn't be running due to insufficient number of applicants. I figured if I let it, this setback could be the end of my plan entirely, so I found another option. And I'm glad I did

2024

Geting My Hands Dirty

I started the ICS program at camosun in January 2024 and after 4 or so years out of school, the pace took a little getting used to. It is not for the faint of heart and it will help you figure out if this is the career for you real fast. I have found a healthy equilibrium for my learning between ambition and gripping terror. All in all though, I'm happy to say that this is infact for me.

The Road Ahead

What's next? There is still so much to learn, yet I can't help but visualize What I might end up doing with what I've learned. What kind of projects will I work on? what will I contribute to? What will I create? How will my path influence my ideas? I can't wait to find out.

I am an aspiring web developer with a passion for computers, creativity and the point at which the two intersect. I am a current student of Camosun College's ICS program and plan to graduate in 2025. I hope to work in front end development with a focus on bringing creative innovation to the user experience.
